The Arctic Angler
![]()
The Arctic
Angler is dedicated to promoting and preserving fisheries north of the 60th
parallel. The viewer will find information on destinations, photo galleries,
links to other useful site
s
and other useful Arctic information. I will try to provide as much information
as possible on destinations in Nunavut, Yukon, The North West Territories and
Alaska. Both warm and coldwater fisheries, stocked and natural will be
discussed, as well as the future of our Arctic fisheries. The different species
will be discussed including distribution, seasons and the various angling
methods used to catch them. Most of our destinations are fresh water but there
are a few ocean areas I have fished. At this point I will only concern myself
with the places I have actually fished. I have been a fly fisher for twenty five
years, but I'm not about to ignore spinning and casting tackle. I also will not
ignore the fact that at certain times bait will out produce artificial
offerings. There are many opportunities that are not going to cost an arm and a
leg like some of of more upscale lodges garner, there are inexpensive fly in destinations as well as some excellent drive to areas. There is an abundance of canoeing,
boating and wade fishing in a variety of small and large lakes, streams and
rivers. In short there is something for everyone. Come and join me on a journey
into the last great wilderness, where it is still possible to see a sled dog
team and driver cruising down a frozen winter trail or native caribou hunt camp
on the shore of a remote lake. Unlike the south there are still communal meat caches
that the whole community can draw from. A land where the younger people provide
for the elders. A place where the elderly are treated with respect and reverence
instead of being locked away in an old folks home somewhere instead of passing
on their great wealth of knowledge.
